- c1910 THE CASINO MOVING PICTURE THEATRE BELGRADE LAKES MAINE sign -
WOW! Look at this BEAUTIFUL sign. From Belgrade Lakes Maine region - THE CASINO HIGH CLASS MOVING PICTURES theatre - the building burned in 1933 or 1934 - the sign was salvaged and recently (within the last month) brought out of storage. A moving picture was what they were called earlier than motion picture. This sign, if authentic, could be very early, since the implication is that movies were ok for women, which was an early concern as they started out in arcades and were considered scurrilous (like the actors in them). (attributed to BP!) The colors and visual detail of this sign - are so over the top! It is awesome. Great folk art AMERICANA! - would look great in a game or theatre room - How about re-used in a MOVIE production. This sign is one of the best signs I've had the pleasure of selling! It measures 13' 2" long - is 45" at it's highest point (from ground up) it is on a 1" wood frame with 1" cleats on the back. The sign is tin - framed in wood - and the stylistic details added to the top and sides are also wood. The paint is original - looks AWESOME!
